Elise & Sander

Milan – San Remo

Yesterday we went to see the finish of the classic one-day road cycling race Milan – San Remo. Almost 300 kms through hilly terrain – those guys are heroes. In my book, there’s nothing like visiting a big cycling event – the culture surrounding it is wonderful and the way the excitement builds among spectators as the helicopters approach is unique. Even tops a football game for me.

Anyway, Elise is becoming a bit of an expert. We visited the world championships in Copenhagen last year and she seemed to remember exactly how to behave. She cheered on pretty much everything that came by; cars, motorcycles and riders alike. Verbally, but also by banging the balustrade with her hand. This clip is of her verbal efforts:

And a quick picture showing that Italy will always be Italy. About an hour before the riders arrived pretty much everything still needed to be arranged in San Remo. Streets still had to be closed off, balustrades put up, and advertising attached:

Hello Italy!

We left cold and stormy Copenhagen and arrived in sunny Italy yesterday! And what a great view we woke up to this morning…

Today we said goodbye to opa and oma who went back to the Netherlands, made a walk to the old town, played by the sea and had an ice cream in town…

Before we left Elise had her last day in the day care for small children. In the video she gets a goodbye present from the day care.
